Cane's 2010 Football Schedule Released

Miami has released its 2010 Football Schedule. Most of the dates were already set in Stone.  The Biggest Date of the year will be September 11th at the Ohio State University.

Ivan McCartney Fails to Qualify to UM

Ivan McCartney from Miramar did not get high enough combo of grades and test scores to get into the University of Miami. He will be going to his 2nd Choice West Virginia.

Miami's 2010 Recruiting Class is Underwhelming

Miami's 2010 Recruiting Class is Underwhelming, but fills a lot of Needs.

Rivals - Yahoo has the Canes class ranked 24th behind schools like Nebraska, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

ESPN is a little bit more kind with a Ranking of 13th, which is respectable, but disappointing with all the talent in South Florida this year. The Canes swung at and missed at most of the Key players that they went after and Randy Shannon suddenly seems like an inept recruiter.

The biggest need in this class was at the Offensive Line, were Miami has recruited very poorly recently. Miami got the Commitments of two impact players Tavadis Glenn at Tackle out of Raines in Jacksonville and Center Brandon Linder Saint Thomas Aquinas. This class could have been complete if the U was able to Land Mega-Star Seantrel Henderson. Miami rounded out its class with Shane McDermott, Jonathan Feliciano, Jermaine Barton and Malcolm Bunche. Overall a very solid Offensive Line Class.

The Canes 2nd biggest area of need was in the Defensive Backfield. Randy's Staff didn't hit any homeruns here or even a triple. They landed Keion Payne, Kacy Rodgers, Jeremy Davis and Devont'a Davis. Rodgers is the best of the bunch, but they look like developmental players at best.

The 3rd biggest need in the class was at QB. The Canes were desperate for quality Quarterbacks in this class and only Landed Undersized Stephen Morris. If Harris goes down, the Canes will be very much be done in 2010.

With very few Linebackers and one time 5 star Arthur Brown MIA, Miami needed a solid follow up to its 2008 LB Class. Once again, this class fails to deliver. Kevin Nelson is the best of the bunch and should be a contributor in a few years. Tyrone Cornileus and Travis Williams aren't in the top 60 at their position. Worse, Kelvin Cain and Jimmy Gaines are large term projects and most likely be on the Scout team the next few years.

With a loaded WR field the Canes wanted to get one or two select receivers in this Class. They didn't do that and only received the commit of Allen Hurns from Carol City. There was a lot of good WR in the State and once again this staff swung on and missed.

Miami had two of the top Defensive of Lineman in the Country Committed going into the season (Todd Chandler pictured). Unfortunately they both de-committed in the last few months and this class is also a disappointment. The Canes end up with 3 Star Commits Jeffrey Brown and David Perry and 2 Star Commit Delmar Taylor.

The Canes Running Back class was above average with Storm Johnson being the Big Back Randy was looking for. Booker T Eduardo Clements and Darion Hall from Naples rounded out the Class. Tampa Bay’s Maurice Hagens looks very solid at FB and hopefully can make an immediate impact.

The TE class is full of projects. Asante Cleveland is the best of the bunch and could make an impact on the field in 2010. Clive Walford and Chase Ford will red-shirt and see action on the Scout Team.

Overall this class is a disappointment to most Canes Fans. We are already looking to the Class of '11.

Canes Can't Save Haith! - Wake Forest 62, Miami 53

Miami came out shooting cold while wearing their Save Haith patches tonight on their Uniforms.  They quickly feel behind 17 points in the first half and were never able to get closer to 4 the rest of the game.  The Canes have been awful in ACC Road Games and have continued this trend at Winston Salem.

The big positive the Canes can take from this is that they never quit on their coach and faught back to make a game of it.  Unfortunately they could not hit a basket down the strech and the ended up losing by 9.  Freshman Garrius Adams had a big night for the Canes and his Career High with 13. 

Brown Done at Miami

Arthur Brown is no longer enrolled at the University of Miami. The once over-hyped, much maligned player is no longer a Hurricane. He never returned from Winter Break. Canes Officials have said that he has not asked for his release from his scholarship yet, but don't expect to see him as a Cane again.


Brown came in as a 5 Star recruit out of Kansas in the 2008 Class. His brother was the #1 player that was originally committed to Miami for Almost a year before having his offer Revoked by Randy Shannon for being a Pre-Madonna.

Got Some Canes Over Here - 11 Canes in the Pro Bowl

Yes, Bryant McKinnie has been booted from the team and Vilma and Wayne won't play since they will play on the same Field Next week in the Super Bowl.   Ed Reed also probably won't play due to injury, but 11 Miami Hurricanes have been selected to tonights Pro-Bowl.  That is easily more than most teams and some conferences.  Here is the Complete List of Players from the U in the Pro Bowl.

Canes Rebound from Big Loss with Solid Win Over Virginia Tech.

Canes Rebound from Big Loss with Solid Win Over Virginia Tech.  Miami defeated the Hokies 82 - 75 at the Bank United Center.  The Canes at one point hold a 19 point lead in the 2nd half and the Hokies made a Game of it, pulling within 5 in the last few minutes. The win snapped a 4 Game Losing Streak which included a 22 point lost to Maryland. The game leaders in points for the Canes included James Dews with 21, Malcolm Grant with 13, and Duran Scott scored 12 points. Miami is now 2-5 in the ACC with a 16 and 5 record overall. Miami would need to win 7 out of its last 9 to get into the NCAA Tourney.

Jeffrey Brown Commits to the U

Miami picks up another “Sleeper” recruit. Jeffrey Brown out of Evanston Township Illinois made a verbal commit to the U this weekend. Miami was his only offer from a BCS school, which has became an increasing trend for Miami. Jeffrey is a two Star recruit and is looking to be a long term project and not an immediate fix for the Canes, who were thin after injuries most of 2009. The bright side for Jeffrey is that he was a High School Wrestler, which should help him shed blockers on the inside.

Recruiting Update

With less than two weeks less until National Signing Day the Canes got their newest commit with Buffalo (N.Y.) Canisius High linebacker Jimmy Gaines. Jimmy is an unheralded High School player and Miami was competing with the University of Buffalo.


Another commitment may be Asante Cleveland out of Christian Brothers near Sacramento California. Rumor on the street is that Asante is a Miami Lean and Canes Fans should expect him to fax in his letter of intent on National Signing Day.

Next weekend is the last weekend for potential Canes to come for a Visit and we should expect a big weekend.

Recruiting Update

One of the top Offensive Line Prospects in the Country, Brandon Linder committed to the U this weekend.  A long sought after prospect picked the Canes over Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State, Florida State, Georgia and Stanford. 

This has been a tough month for the Canes for Recruiting, losing Long Time commits to Notre Dame and USF. 

Rumor has it that the Canes have also recieved commit from Jermaine Barton.  Jermaine is an offensive lineman from St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. (Florida) with Linder.  Offensive Line is a must Get this year for the Canes and they have done well number wise. 

Canes Display New Uni's

The Miami Hurricanes displayed their new Uniforms Saturday during the Game with University of South Florida. The Canes were part of 11 Teams that have Displayed Nike's New Pro Combat Uniforms. They are reportedly 30 percent Lighter than previous Uniforms.


They look 10 times better than the bra straps that Miami has been wearing over the last 3 years. The remind Canes Fans of the old Storm Trooper Uniforms with White on White. Nike should add player’s number to the right side of the Shoulder with the "U" on the other side

Not only have they been a hit with fans, more importantly they have been a huge hit with recruits. The Canes can use all the help in that regard.  

 

Canes Bully the Bulls

Miami Cruises Past USF  31 - 10


On Rivalry weekend for College football, Miami played a Non-Rival in State Foe. Even though USF believes it is rivals of the Big 3 in Florida, The Canes quickly put an end to the Discussion in the First Quarter of the Game.

The first score capped an 81 yard 12 play drive with J12 throwing a touchdown pass to Miami’s leading receiver Leonard Hankerson. Miami later capitalized on a B.J. Daniel’s turnover and Baby James scored on a 12 yard run. The play reminded a lot of Canes fans of his James Freshman year and what could have been.

Berry was the workhorse of the Canes 3rd Touch drive of the game with big carries of 19 and 17 yards respectively. Baby J also capped off this drive with a 4 yard run.

Brandon Harris showed some of his ball skills by picking off the next drive for USF. Miami drive stalled and they could not score the rest of the quarter giving Miami a comfortable 21 – 3 Halftime score.

Harris almost had a pick 6 in the beginning of the second half, but couldn’t contain the pass. It should have been the icing on the cake, but Miami’s inability to get interceptions continued from 2008 through 2009.

The only Miami highlights of the Bulls march down the field for a touchdown, was Randy’s calling timeouts at questionable times. If the D could have held on both of the 3rd down plays, they would have been good use of the timeouts, but they didn’t and the announcers continued to point out Shannon’s questionable game management skills.

The Canes offense struggled through the next few series, but J12 made good on a 33 yard touchdown reception to the wrong player. Luckily Epps was there for the catch that concluded his quiet senior regular season.

The Canes tacked on a field goal and the game ended up being an easy 31 – 10 Victory as Miami overwhelmed USF in every facet of the game.

Most of the Nation Failed to see the 4th quarter as ABC changed the game and ESPN blocked the game in 360.

The win provided Miami with its first 9 win season since 2005. Things seem to getting back to normal in CanesLand.

Other News in College Football

The ESPN/ABC continued the Slurp fest of Throwing Halfback Tebow from UiF. His average touchdown pass did not even move past the line of scrimmage against Rival Florida State. FSU was clearly outmanned and out coach in what could have been Bobby’s last regular season game as Head Coach.

Meanwhile Clemson and Georgia Tech also lost to in State SEC Rivals as the SEC proved once again they are the best conference in CFB.

Charlie Weiss proved his merit as a coach as he choked away 4th Quarter Leads. Golden Boy Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate had outstanding games, but neither of them played defense for the no longer relevant Golden Domer’s.

TCU and Boise State continue to prove that you don’t need to play anyone to be ranked in the Top Ten.

TCU destroyed New Mexico 51 – 10 while BSU beat Nevada 44-33.

Pete Carroll finally grew a pair and went deep in the last minute of a win over cross-town rival and Public School UCLA. The boys in powder blue almost crossed mid-field to physically beat the Trojans since they couldn’t beat them in the game.
